Credential types

The unit of work is the claim, not the business. One entry here answers the same question for every business that publishes it — and for 8 of these 14, no lookup is possible for anyone.

REGISTER

A public register exists. These are resolvable per business.

“Licensed” (unqualified)REGISTER · Colorado Secretary of State — business entities
Means: That some authority has issued a licence. The word alone does not say which authority, which trade, or whether it is current.
Does not imply: Does not imply a state licence. Most home-service trades in Colorado are licensed by CITY, not by the state, and several are not licensed at all.
Tree work in DenverREGISTER · Denver licensed tree contractor list
Means: Denver Revised Municipal Code ch. 57 div. IV requires a Tree Service Company licence — written exam, field practical, proof of insurance — for tree work performed inside Denver.
Does not imply: Registering a business in Colorado is not this licence. The requirement follows where the work happens, not where the company is formed.
ISA Certified Arborist®REGISTER · ISA credential directory
Means: Passed the ISA certification exam. Appears in a public credential directory.
Does not imply: Is not a licence, and is not ISA membership.
Hierarchy: Certified Arborist → Municipal/Utility Specialist → Board Certified Master Arborist. TRAQ is a separate qualification, not a rank.
TCIA AccreditedREGISTER · TCIA accredited company locator
Means: Audited company accreditation by the Tree Care Industry Association.
Does not imply: TCIA membership is not TCIA accreditation — the second is audited, the first is bought.
Trading as “LLC”REGISTER · Colorado Secretary of State — business entities
Means: A registered legal entity exists in the state of formation.
Does not imply: Does not imply the entity is CURRENT. Colorado carries entities as Delinquent or Voluntarily Dissolved while their websites keep trading under the name.

NONE

No register exists anywhere. These are answered once, here, and never need a per-business lookup.

ISA MemberNONE
Means: Dues are paid to the International Society of Arboriculture.
Does not imply: Requires no examination and no training. It is not certification, and ISA publishes no member register, so it cannot be confirmed or refuted by anyone.
EHAP certifiedNONE
Means: Completed the Electrical Hazards Awareness Program.
Does not imply: No public roster of completions exists. Unverifiable by any third party.
Follows ANSI A300NONE
Means: A voluntary consensus standard for tree care practice.
Does not imply: Nobody certifies or audits compliance. There is no register of conforming companies.

PRIVATE

True or false, but only the business or its insurer holds the evidence. No third party can resolve these, and treating them as unverified is not the same as treating them as false.

Insured / $X coveragePRIVATE
Means: A policy is claimed to be in force.
Does not imply: No public register of commercial policies exists anywhere in the US. Only a certificate of insurance from the carrier evidences this, and a COI is a snapshot, not a status.
BondedPRIVATE
Means: A surety bond is claimed.
Does not imply: Bonds are issued per job or per licence by a surety, not by the state, and are not centrally published.
Since 20XX / N yearsPRIVATE · Colorado Secretary of State — business entities
Means: A start date is asserted.
Does not imply: Partially checkable: a state entity formation date bounds the LEGAL entity, though an owner may have traded earlier under another name or as a sole proprietor.
N reviews / X.X starsPRIVATE
Means: A rating is asserted on the business's own page.
Does not imply: Platform-owned and time-varying. A number typed into a website is not the platform's number.
Background checkedPRIVATE
Means: Screening is claimed for staff.
Does not imply: No register. Nothing distinguishes a real programme from the phrase.

PUFFERY

Not factual claims. Recorded so they are never mistaken for findings.

Most trusted / #1 / award-winningPUFFERY
Means: Nothing checkable.
Does not imply: Not a factual claim. Recorded so it is never mistaken for one.
